INFORMATION FOR SETPOM GREEN ESSAY COMPETITION CORNER IN THE SETPOM WEBSITE

The main goal of the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Mitigation (SETPOM) is to promote sustainable environmental practices for the benefit of man and other occupants of the global system. The exploratory behaviour of children places them in direct contact with materials in the environment being part and parcel of the environment.
Environmental hazards have become a growing concern all over the world  due to rapid industrialisation, widespread use of pesticides inhaled and accidentally ingested through contaminated food and water; industrial waste emissions into the sea, air and land; open burning of refuse, increased  use of non-biodegradable materials, lack of sanitation, high level of heavy metals and asbestos use in building materials, among others. Children require the safest environment to survive and develop their full potential. However, they have become vulnerable and susceptible to these environmental hazards which pose a great threat to their survival and health.
In the past three years, SETPOM, has organized an Annual Green Essay Competition in other to involve young ones to become aware and sensitive of these environmental hazards and engage them to play their roles to avoid, eliminate or cope with the threats.
